- The properties of Serenoa Repens supporting Men's Health / Prostate:
- NOVARA, Giacomo; et al. Efficacy and Safety of Hexanic Lipidosterolic Extract of Serenoa repens (Permixon) in the Treatment of Lower Urinary Tract Symptoms Due to Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia: Systematic Review and Meta-analysis of Randomized Controlled Trials. European urology focus, 2016, 2.5: 553-561. PMID:28723522
Conclusions: The conclusions of the recent Cochrane meta-analysis on Serenoa repens in the treatment of LUTS/BPH apparently do not apply to Permixon. Our meta-analysis showed that Permixon decreased nocturnal voids and Qmax compared with placebo and had efficacy in relieving LUTS similar to tamsulosin and short-term finasteride. Moreover, Permixon had a favorable safety profile with a very limited impact on sexual function, which is significantly affected by all other drugs used to treat LUTS/BPH. Patient summary: A systematic review of the literature showed that Permixon was effective for relieving urinary symptoms due to prostate enlargement and improving urinary flow compared with placebo. Permixon had efficacy similar to tamsulosin and short-term finasteride in relieving urinary symptoms. Permixon was well tolerated and had a very limited impact on sexual function. - YARNELL, Eric. Botanical medicines for the urinary tract. World journal of urology, 2002, 20.5: 285-293. PMID:12522584
- VELA-NAVARRETE, Remigio; et al. Efficacy and safety of a hexanic extract of Serenoa repens (Permixon ® ) for the treatment of lower urinary tract symptoms associated with benign prostatic hyperplasia (LUTS/BPH): systematic review and meta-analysis of randomised controlled trials and observational studies. BJU International, 2018, 122.6: 1049-1065. PMID:29694707
Conclusion: The present meta-analysis, which includes all available RCTs and observational studies, shows that the HESr (Permixon) reduced nocturia and improved Qmax compared with placebo and had a similar efficacy to tamsulosin and short-term 5-ARI in relieving LUTS. HESr (Permixon) appears to be an efficacious and well-tolerated therapeutic option for the long-term medical treatment of LUTS/BPH. - LATIL, Alain; et al. Effects of hexanic extract of Serenoa repens (Permixon® 160 mg) on inflammation biomarkers in the treatment of lower urinary tract symptoms related to benign prostatic hyperplasia. The Prostate, 2015, 75.16: 1857-1867. PMID:26306400
Conclusions: These results showed for the first time at clinical level the anti-inflammatory properties of HESr, already indicated in BPH-related LUTS. Thus, HESr could be of interest to prevent unfavourable evolution in patients with CPI. - ZLOTTA, Alexandre R.; et al. Evaluation of male sexual function in patients with Lower Urinary Tract Symptoms (LUTS) associated with Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH) treated with a phytotherapeutic agent (Permixon), Tamsulosin or Finasteride. European urology, 2005, 48.2: 269-276. PMID:15939527
Conclusion: The present study demonstrates that Permixon therapy has no negative impact on male sexual function. Both Finasteride and Tamsulosin had a slight impact on sexual function, especially on ejaculation, although these effects were rare and in line with previous reports about these two drugs. - TACKLIND, James; et al. Serenoa repens for benign prostatic hyperplasia. Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews, 2012, 12.12: CD001423. PMID:23235581
conclusions: Serenoa repens, at double and triple doses, did not improve urinary flow measures or prostate size in men with lower urinary tract symptoms consistent with BPH. - MACDONALD, Roderick; et al. Serenoa repens monotherapy for benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH): an updated Cochrane systematic review. BJU International, 2012, 109.12: 1756. PMID:22551330
Conclusions: • Serenoa repens therapy does not improve LUTS or Q(max ) compared with placebo in men with BPH, even at double and triple the usual dose. • Adverse events were generally mild and comparable to placebo.

Conclusion: In silico target fishing identified maca's traditional effects on treatment and prevention of osteoporosis, prostate cancer, and kidney diseases, and its potential function of treating cardiovascular diseases, as the most important of this herb's possible activities.

Conclusion: The present study demonstrated that the protective effects of Tribulus terrestris, which improves human sperm motility and viability, may be due to its antioxidant properties. On the basis of the results, the researchers concluded that Tribulus terrestris can be used as a safe therapeutic alternative to current modalities for the management of motility dysfunction in males.
