What are the properties of Potassium in supplements?

The properties of Potassium

Potas (K, Latin. kalium) is one of the most important minerals necessary for maintaining normal human life functions, alongside calcium, iron and magnesium. The deficiency of any of them causes health problems and contributes to health deterioration of well-being. Potassium primary imoortance steps from the fact that it regulates the osmotic balance and water-electrolyte balance of cells (it increases the excretion of water from the body), increases the permeability of cell membranes, increases the hydration of the cytoplasm (reduces its viscosity). More: Potassium – one of the most important elements for the human body.

Potassium Citrate

Potassium citrate (also known as tripotassium citrate) is a potassium salt of citric acid. It contains 38.28% potassium by mass. In the monohydrate form it is highly hygroscopic and deliquescent. As a food additive, potassium citrate is used to regulate acidity and is known as E number E332. Medicinally, it may be used to control kidney stones derived from either uric acid or cystine. Potassium citrate is an effective way to treat/manage gout and arrhythmia, if the patient is hypokalemic. It is widely used to treat urinary calculi (kidney stones) and is often used by patients with cystinuria.

Potassium Bicarbonate

Potassium bicarbonate is a white, crystalline, slightly alkaline and salty substance. It is produced by the passage of carbon dioxide through an aqueous potassium carbonate solution. It is used in medicine as an antacid. It is registered in the FDA under the section of suitable, safe and effective ingredients for OTC antacids. This FDA denomination classifies potassium bicarbonate as a GRAS ingredient. Potassium hydrogencarbonate is a potassium salt that is the monopotassium salt of carbonic acid. It has fungicidal properties and is used in organic farming for the control of powdery mildew and apple scab. It has a role as a food acidity regulator, a raising agent, a buffer and an antifungal agrochemical. It is a potassium salt and an organic salt. It contains a hydrogencarbonate.
