The properties of Linoleic Acid
Linoleic acid is an organic compound with the formula COOH(CH2)7CH=CHCH2CH=CH(CH2)4CH3. Both alkene groups are cis. It is a fatty acid sometimes denoted 18:2 (n-6) or 18:2 cis-9,12. A linoleate is a salt or ester of this acid.
Linoleic acid (LA) is a polyunsaturated omega-6 fatty acid and is one of two essential fatty acids for humans, who must obtain it through their diet. It is a colorless or white oil that is virtually insoluble in water.
Sources of Linoleic Acid in diet:
- Vegetable oils such as corno il, sunflower oil, soy bean oil.
- Pork meat and fat and products made from pork meat.
- Palm oil and products that contains palm oil, such as pastry, crackers, fried potatoes, potato chips and more.
- Avocado and products made from avocado.
- Meat from poultry and products made from poultry.
- Egg and egg products.
- Wheat and products made from wheat.
